Organize Your Shoes

"Are you a shoe tosser or a shoe placer? If you just kind of kick them off by the door, you're not going to run upstairs and put them in a little box." Brooke Newton, the Container Store

Drawers are easier to access than stacks of boxes, which can topple as you reach for the right pair.

Keep shoes up and away. Place shoes on shelves or racks or in clear or labeled boxes. Reserve the floor for shoes you wear often; otherwise they get dusty.

Don't impale shoes on top of those metal racks that point your shoes skyward. "They can dent and damage your shoes," says professional organizer Linda Koopersmith.

If space is tight, store shoes toe to heel and you'll gain space.
