Organizing Kit 101

Professional organizer Linda Koopersmith shows how easy it can be to get organize. She says to start small to both eliminate that overwhelming feeling and to save time.

Place like items together. For instance, place all stain-removing cleaners in a small basket. This can be carried from room to room and grabbed quickly in case of a quick spill. Don't forget to include rags and brushes with the cleaners. Decorating the basket makes this a great housewarming gift.

Create a special tool kit just for your needs, using an old shoebox or cigar box. Include pliers, screwdrivers, nails, scissors and anything else you might need. This keeps tools separate from another toolbox.

Underneath the kitchen sink is a typical storage place for household cleaning supplies. A space-saving idea for this area is to use an organizer that slides on tracks and can be lifted out.

Use baskets to keep like items together and save space on crowded shelves. If an item is needed, just remove the basket instead of knocking over other items to retrieve the one desired.
