Linda Koopersmith,
professional organizer, explains the importance
of keeping and organizing photographic negatives.
She demonstrates how simple techniques and
easy-to-find products can preserve important
memories.
- Date the outside of the photo packet
as soon as you get the pictures. By putting
dates on the packets, you are organized
whenever you want to place them in an
album.
- Place photos in a box or an album.
- Note the numbers of the negatives on
the back of each photo, and get rid of
negatives of photos you don't like.
- Keep negatives in special jackets (available
in camera stores) that allow you to write
the date and event on each.
- Do not store both color and black-and-white
negatives in the same sleeve because they
can ruin one another.
- Keep negatives in a separate place from
photos, such as a safety-deposit box or
fireproof box. In case of a disaster,
you still have memories preserved.
- Keep photo albums on a bookshelf or
in a metal drawer, rather than in a wooden
drawer, which could contain harmful fumes
from stains and glue.
